Have you tried a fill in light? That is a shadowless light (3.4.7.6
Shadowless Lights, 2.2.4.6.1  Using Shadowless Lights) maybe in a
light_group (3.4.8  Light Groups).
You could also adjust the ambient in your textures. 
(2.3.4.3.1  Using Ambient)
