There was a site-wide crash in March of 2021, and the problem started after
that. Lines with non-ASCII characters disappeared in the Web view of articles
posted prior to the crash, but they still show up in Thunderbird.

For articles posted after the crash, the behavior has changed. I haven't
figured out exactly when non-ASCII lines disappear and when they are retained,
but it seems to be less of a problem with the newer messages. But I've also
just been avoiding non-ASCII characters (which feels awkward when we're
discussing Bezier curves).
