You can build the Unix command-line versions with gcc used by Project
Builder (aka Xcode, using gcc) just fine. Just follow the general build
instructions in the Unix source code distribution.

You will need CodeWarrior Pro 9 to do serious POV-Ray for Mac development
together with the Mac sources. While you can probably adapt the Mac sources
to build with gcc and generate Mach-O binaries (which is the only executable
format gcc is capable of generating), by doing so some important features of
the Mac version will not be available and performance will be inferior in
every aspect.
