Looking good.

For blocks of different sizes it might be worth looking at Block Wall
Macros by Chris B.

Looks like the site is down just now :(

The Object Collection has not been rebuilt since the server crash in
March. The BlockWall files are available at:

https://github.com/LeForgeron/PovContributions/tree/master/blockwall/chrisb%201.1.1

At this time, I do not know how to download the whole directory at once.

It's github: clone the whole repository and voilà.

Ok, there might be some git magic to only get some portion of the
repository and only at the latest revision, but this is left as an
exercise for the reader.

Thanks! Not excessive really, parsed in about a minute, rendered in about 15
(UberPOV on a 2012 Mac).

The bricks are rounded-box meshes, an instance per block/turret, and of course
half of them are simply omitted by the exclusion test, so it's not a
memory-intensive scene either. Yet...

This would seem to be the best way to go, but I'm no mathematician. Some day
I'll spend some time reading up the matter!

Actually I did once play with a similar concept - with spheres, in 2d, and it
wasn't easy, and only partially successful. However your suggestion is a little
different, perhaps I should revisit it.

Thanks for the pointer, I wasn't aware of this. I'll have a look!

Looks pretty good from a distance, would be nicer if the collapsed parts had
eroded edges but I imagine that would be pretty tricky to do. This looks more
like it has just been knocked down, maybe next step should be modelling a
catapult and adding a pile of rubble ;-)
