It reminds me of one of the buildings on the Tianamen Zquare in Beijing,
China. Red flags, yellow stars, etc.

I think some normal would help, of course it would slow down things.
Is the graininess at the bottom caused by radiosity?

It's because the building is lit by a largish area light right at z=0,
so the ground is casting a bit of a shadow upwards. It's easy enough to
fix...
