Hello,
Many thanks to Lutz for all the help with my IK questions.
Now for a new question. Are there limitations on the size of a file that
Moray or Povray can handle, or is it limited only by the power of the
computer? I made a .mdl file that has thousands of CSG's in it, and I had to
increase the vertices and edges settings in Moray significantly to get moray
to show the wireframes. When I tried to render in Povray (ver 3.1), it hangs
up. Are there some settings in Povray I need to adjust, or is there a limit
to what Povray can handle, or do I just need a newer computer? I have an
Athlon 500 mhz processor with 128 meg ram. Would doubling the ram help?
Thank you,
Steve Shelby

Hi Steve Shelby, you recently wrote in moray.win:

Well, memory is the most limiting factor. If you only have 128MB, then
you might want to exit Moray when rendering. Use the Task Manager to
check how much memory Moray is using (assuming you're on NT or 2K, I
don't know how to check this under 95/98).
If Moray is running, it's keeping memory from POV-Ray and vice versa.
It might not matter if you don't continue to work in moray, since
Windows might swap Moray out to disk....
More RAM would definitely help. To find out why POV-Ray is hanging,
try exiting Moray and loading the INI file that Moray generated and
rendering that.

Lutz,
Thank you. I just ordered another 128 mg DRAM for my computer, only $43(US)!
I also figured out a a way to reduce the number of csg's in my mdl by about
60%.

My 128 SDRAM module is about 800 mg. (wild speculation based
on the fact that it's a little lighter than a paper clip,
which I was told in grade school is about a gram)

If I was really bored, I'd take one of my DIMMS to work tomorrow and use
our shiny new balance to find out what it weighs to 1mg, but the shit hit
the fan as most of the year groups returned after a fortnight's enforced
absence due to a lack of heating in the school, so I'm a bit snowed under
with practical recquisitions ATM.
And besides, I don't want to take my PC apart :)
Bye for now,
Jamie.
