My first thought for myself, was a wooden shoe, then I thought that THAT was a

less obvious item, not directly pointing to our country/region, but that is
associated with it...
Oh well... I feel I am getting a little bit foggy. What I mean is, a painting
for instance, or the detail from a painting, something like that...

Thomas

PS Yes, a stinky cheese, I would like that! Especially the ones you cannot
travel with in public!!!

Or an empty/full Irn Bru bottle?

Scotland being one of the very few western countries where coca cola
isn't the best selling soft drink.

Jamie.

LOL
Once I traveled with my band to Perth (Scotland) with a Camembert (soft
cheese) that I choosed to be just mature after 2 days van travel.
Our horrified host watched us tasting with relish this yum-yum stuff but we
never got him tasting it.

I can imagine! And what about Munster? Excellent cheese, really, but you
need gloves to cut away the (soft) crust, otherwise your fingers keep
smelling....!

Well, in following the idea of Steve, I made a medallion (Steve's!) with a
painting by Vermeer: The view of Delft. IMO, it represents some of the
quintessential things of the Netherlands: skies, water, old stones (what's
left of them), painters...
I shall upload it presently.
