Usually, i'm rendering out the frames as 720x360 (720 means
it's not going to be re-scaled, just letterboxed when it
goes to DVD, which has 720x576 size).

I'm a mac guy, so this is a quicktime .mov file, with jpeg
at maximum quality. About 600 MB for 3:44. I export that to
DV stream AVI, and copy it over to my PC (haven't found a
well-working MPEG compressor for mac yet...).

I run that file through TMPEGenc (which has a very
unscrupulous setting of 320 kbits/sec for video + 32
kbit/sec mono audio) with an output size of 320x160). I try
to ignore the horrible compression artefacts :) and that's
about it.

Without a soundtrack, you may go to 360 kbit video for 9.99
MB at 3:44.

I've picked that time when i was using Astarte's M.Pack,
which had a lowest possible 360 kBit preset for that. Ah,
the days of MacOS 9... long gone, as is M.Pack.

That's not me. dbott is "Darin"........I emailed my 3 files in win zip,
did you receive them? And, thank you for the explanation on the way
you produce your animation. If you did not receive my files,
I will email a link where you can download them.

Thanx dbott

Alright, i'm fetching them now. Should be up in ten minutes.
Sorry for the name mix-up, i've not yet received your zip
file. I guess my mailbox isn't half as tough as i thought,
or the zip has triggered some over-zealous antivirus blocker
- come to think about it, if a run-of-the-mill 50 kByte
virus is nasty, imagine the havoc a 10-MB-virus could wreak ;)

Cool - Thank you Markus,
It's nice to see it there. Well a pseudo irtc page is better than nothing.
What's up with this guy http://billmarrs.com/ - he is on the irtc
admin team and has an active web page. Has anyone talk to him?

Once again thanx, the page looks great.....

I've sent a mail. He's updating his LiveJournal entry rather regularly,
so i'm hoping we'll hear back from him soon.

I've received his reply (wow, that was quick), but he's not
had any contact with the IRTC/admins at all for almost two
years now, and really doesn't want to get re-involved (and i
fully understand - check his LiveJournal, i guess he has
enough at hands already, and his priorities set
differently). He suggested we might need to talk to the
"master admins" (i.e. POVray.org) about the situation.

Comments?

I've been following this (and the stills thread). If I understand correctly:

* Both the Stills and Animation rounds are weeks overdue.
* There appears to only be a single IRTC admin.
* The IRTC admin hasn't responded to email, the mailing list, or this list.

Is that right? It seems odd that there's not even a backup admin for the
contest.
