The build provided by Ubuntu contains some modifications to the code, so
we can only provide limited support for it, especially when it comes to
behaviour that differs from the official version as published by the
POV-Ray dev team.

You should probably ask Andreas Beckmann (anb### [at] debianorg) whether this
behaviour of the Ubuntu build is intended or otherwise; he seems to be
in charge of maintaining that build.

Also, "the sources from github" is a rather fuzzy specification; did you
take the source from the current master branch, or the official 3.7.0.0
tag? In the former case, the difference /may/ be caused by one of the
countless changes in the official code.
