Hello

I'm the local admin for the math department faculty, and one member of the
department wants this installed. I've done the default install and it works
for me on my admin profile, but will not render any images on a standard
WinXP user profile. The error message provided is as follows:

Cannot Open File C:PROGRAM FILESPOV-Ray for Windows
v3.6RENDERERRERUNCURRENT.INI to write rerun information

I'm not finding anything in the setting which will permit me to override
this problem. With respect to changing settings, I've changed Script I/O
restrictions to "no restrictions". Any information would be appreciated.
I'm not finding information through the FAQs or other messages to resolve
this (I'll check again, however).

I can be emailed directly at csu### [at] gmailcom with further information.

You have an ownership problem.
3 possible solutions. All NOT Win XP specific: W2K, XP, and probably Vista.

(1)
You can redirect that file, and any other, in the user's profile folder. You
need to edit the pvengine.ini and povray.ini files.
In pvengine.ini, you need to change the first 2 sections.
In povray.ini, add a Ligrary_path=Path_to_current.ini (pointing to the file in
the user's fulder.

(2)
If you want the user to access the original location, you can attribute the
ownership of renderer/rerun/current.ini to "everybody" or to that specific user.
You may even give him total ownership of
C:/PROGRAM FILES/POV-Ray for Windows v3.6, or only selected folder(s), or set it
to everybody.
Set ownership to everybody if you want anybody to be able to use POV-Ray on that
machine.
Set ownership to a specific user if you want only him to be able to use it.
As administrator, you'll always be able to see and edit any of the content.

(3)
You can reinstall INTO his personal profile folder. Just select it during
installation instead of accepting the default location.

(tips)
You can also specify where the images will be saved:
Output_File_Name=%userprofile%"my pictures" You need to reflect this in the
pvengine.ini file.
You can set the image format to png by adding +fn to that same file. This will
save lots of disk space.
The tips can be done with all proposals.

Not a sysadmin, but hit by ownership problems with my home network.
