There's a new build of POVWIN available for 32-bit platforms. Just grab
it from the main download page. Main change is that the editor has been
completely re-jigged; it's still based on codemax in the back-end but the
interface (which is about 5,000 lines of code) has been re-written. (This
is actually the same code that is in the Win64 version).

The new version is numbered 3.6.1a (the 'a' means a platform-specific
sub-version and does not mean 'a' will be made available on other platforms).

Please grab it and let me know if the new code contains any of the bugs
highlighted here in the past (e.g. the 'file changed' flag being set
wrongly etc). Note that you should not expect any changes to the core
editor (such as the ability to handle nested comments) as this is not the
part that was re-written.

The new code should be equivalent in functionality to the old one with a
few minor new features (such as the ability to print in color).

Ahhh! I think I am catching on. Am I right in thinking that "POVWIN" is
the editor that comes bundled with POV-Ray (the engine) for Windows? So
when we say that there is a new "POVWIN", it isn't a separate download,
instead it is a new distribution of POV-Ray for Windows?

Nearly. POVWIN _is_ POV-Ray for Windows. See

In the new version I have problems while trying to keep editor preferences
(i.e. default I have no code hilightning, and for each file I must go in
editor preferences and set language to "Pov-ray").
There is a way to avoid this problem?
Thank you in advance,
;-)

I've gotten this same behavior. If I use "Save" to save a new file for the
first time, the file type apparently is not detected. But if I use "Save as" to
save a new file, the file type _is_ detected. (Using POV version
3.6.1a.icl8.win32; Windows 2000 pro.)

Thanks!

thanks for the reports, I will look into this as soon a I get a chance
(am busy on other things right now).

N.B. I can't see this happening on my machine so am unsure of the cause
(highlighting is working fine).

Nice new look to those open file tabs.

Have the language scoping trouble, when creating a new file, as was already
mentioned.

Another problem is scrolling. Lose ability to use the notebook touchpad
(Alps Glidepoint) after rendering, unless I move the cursor onto the
scrollbar where it still responds correctly. No idea if this occurs or not
while using a Mouse.

In the editor context menu, instead of "close current file", it says
"hXw"... Still closes the file though :)
