Note I write about system priority, not native POV-Ray priority. When POV-Ray is
in lowest native priority but normal system priority then I can observe moments
of stagnation.

ok, it seems like that helps for anyone having this problem, so I'll try that :)

Oops sorry, I didn't remember your message... I did report it during the
pre-beta phase, and Peter Popov confirmed having seen it a couple of times
and tracking it down to a video problem, but nothing more. In fact it's been
a real problem for me, but very elusive.

Now I understand that's it's the system priority that you talked about. I'll
try to see whether this workaround works for me.

Setting (in POV-Ray) GUI-priority to lowest and (in Windows Task-Manager) leaving
POV-Ray's priority at normal seems to have solved the problem.
tnx for your ideas!

I also have windows XP and have the same problem. However simply setting the
render priority to lowest solves it wth no degrade in performance.
