I like Maxtors also, but not for the sound. I have 1 or 2 (sometimes 3)
systems running all night anyway and if they were turned off the silence
would wake me up. It is a pleasant background noise that calms me.

Beware, I've heard rumor about a 512Mb limit for some version of MS OS.

Not exactly a rumor - Win98se has a definite problem with RAM above 512Mb.

You can ran Win98(se) with 1 GB RAM, if you add these text to system.ini :

[vcache]
MinFileCache=32768 KByte
MaxFileCache=32768 KByte

At least these is my way to handle the RAM problem with Win98se.

Win2000 eats more memory resources, you cannot use most DOS programs and it
is somewhat slower than Win98se (at least this is my experience).

with 1.5 GB, whatever memory I used.

Appreciate the response - I wasn't aware of this; certainly will give it a
try.
I also read your later post regarding the apparent 1Gb limit for Win98se.
Thanks.

Windows ME won't see memory above 512Mb
