That is the question.

This has been bothering me for some time (read: years).

pov files are almost certainly related to povray.

inc files are not, I would be most annoyed if inc's (or ini's) were opened
in pov by default.

just set the association manually

That was what I was thinking : *.inc is used by some other softwares. (Note
I did not ask for *.ini.) But I don't know any that does... My guess is
C/C++ files (for I am sure Pov devellopers would have these on their HD). Am
I right ?

yes, most programming systems have a method for including files, and these
usually get named .inc

Actually, C/C++ include files typically get named .h or .hpp or .h++.

AFAIK in assembly programming includes have the .inc extension

A quick search through my hard drive shows the following programs using .inc
files:

DBISAM database engine
Personal Web Server
POV-Ray
C source code for the "Display" image viewer
C++ source code for the Crystal Space game engine
Visual C++ 6 include files
StarOffice
C source code for Fractint

Pascal also used .inc files.

PHP too, thought both are by custom rather than requirement.
