I am tired of changing the black background manually. How do I set this
in POV-ray? I am working with orbital-pictures generated from ADF using
molden and ADFrom.

simply with a line like

 background { rgb <0.5,0.5,0.5> }

in your pov-scenes files. (this line give a 50% grey)

PS2: searching the povray-help for background should
     have give you the information!
