After I posted, I checked the file size, and yes, POV
is doing the right stuff. Why I get the same report
for every png image is still a mystery to me though.

that's the import filter of PSP
PSP doesn't know that there are more than 24 bits ...
the filters always decrease the colordepth to a maximum of 16,7M...
no way around ...

Technical? From my Book of Choice Words:
"Bugger: equivalent to "Rats","Drat","Dang", and a few different
Choice Words that relate to defecation. Not to be confused with
other, stronger Choice Words that relate to sexual functions
and/or acts or Choice Phrases like "Bloody Hell".
