Hi Chris,

The glow patch seems to have changed since 0.6
as light source glows can be unioned but standard
glows can't.

Regards,

Keith

It has, slightly...mainly a bugfix with the "size" keyword, I think.

I don't know what you mean by "anymore"...glows didn't work with CSG
before, either. As I have mentioned before, the glow patch is very
incomplete and will change a lot.

Hi Chris,

When I say anymore, I mean that MPOV7 complains that a glow in a union
is an error, where as with MPOV6 it didn't, also Light source glows are
allowed inside unions in MPOV7. I accept that the glow syntax may/will
change over time. I only mentioned it, as it was pointed out to me
by one of my PlugIn users and I didn't know if you frequented the Moray
Bin
channel. The users of Moray find it very useful to be able to union
glows
as I believe it helps with the modeling.

Best Regards,

Keith

By "Light source glows", you mean light sources with the glow effect?
Those are allowed in unions because light sources are...they don't work
quite right either.

The problem isn't that the syntax has changed, just that glow effects
don't work in unions.

Channel? As in IRC?
No, I've never gone there...

How? A glow in a union (in earlier versions of MegaPOV) behaves the same
as one outside the union, which is the main problem.

no, the newsgroup.

i think people have just been putting them in unions in mpov0.6 for
convenience in translation with other objects. i don't think anyone is
actually trying to make objects glow or anything like that. i haven't
tried it myself, but i do frequent the moray newsgroups and have tried
the plugin. something 'has' changed from 0.6 to 0.7 besides the size
keyword, and that's what keith is talking about.

But they don't translate along with the union. They just sit where they
were when added to the scene.

What plugin?

Well, one thing that didn't work before now produces an error...

keith hull's glow plugin of course. i'm not sure, but the plugin may
actually remake the glow if it is moved, and delete the original in
order to 'really' move it. but i really don't know if glows move with
the plugin or not. i only played with it a couple times as school has
body slammed me and pinned me down for quite some time now. in any
case, it looks like the glow at least moved in moray just fine. recall
that moray doesn't set the location of an item until it writes the pov
code for export. might that have something to do with it? and maybe
something really changed in moray, or the plugin sdk, and not in glows?

I just get the CSG translation parameters and add them to the glow
location
before exporting the glow object, simple really.
