There is a program called elefont that can do this:

None that I am aware of. I have tried to talk a few people into
writting such a patch but it is very difficult to do and no one
wants to spend the time on it.

Mathematically, it's impossible to do in a general way. Specifically, you
can't create a curve that's parallel to an arbitrary cubic or quadratic curve.
Since POV uses curves rather than decomposing them into lines (as elefont does)
it can't be done without making some major (and ugly) changes in the way TTF
objects work.

I must say that you sounded a bit more optimistic about this subject
that last time we held this discussion (12/16/99) but I will agree
that it is not a trivial feature to implement.

Maybe I knew something then that I don't know now. Could you give me an XRef
header so I can see what I said then?

'at's not an XRef header! I wanted a group and article number, since that's
how my archive is organized. But I guess that'll do.

Sorry. The thread started with this message and went from there -
Xref: news.povray.org povray.unofficial.patches:1560

Well... I guess I wasn't all that optimistic then either. What I said then,
in short, was that *if* there were a way to generate a parallel curve to a
given quadratic curve, it could be done. That's pretty much what I said this
time, too.
