When I post the preliminary ParticlePatch src (done over MegaPOV 0.4) next week (I
think it will be finished by then) how should I post it
1 - just the bits I have inserted/changed & info on where they go
2 - changed src files
3 - complete src files
PS - the results I have been getting wrt illumination and colouring leave something to
be desired and look more like spherical fog than anything I got out of James Neill's
ray-tracer - esp. comparing the first scene he did with the same scene converted to
POV, but the refraction is quite good

I post the entire file if I make a large number of changes to it or if
my additions take a large percentage of it's length, otherwise I post
the chunks that I modified/added, along with some of the surrounding
code so the correct place to put them is clearer. I don't bother to
include files that I haven't modified, I just indicate which version my
modifications are based on.
Though in the future, I will probably distribute whole source files more
often...

Could you post some demo images so we all know what you are talking
about? :-)

I have a strong preference for #2. Distributing whole source files
which have been modified is much more idiot-proof (ie, Glen Proof)
than handing out a list of changes. and info on where to add them.

I agree but what if you are working on a patch of your own an you accidentally
overwrite your files with the patch you download - then you will be in trouble unless
you can decode your scribbled notes :) back to bits & bytes

I always keep backup copies of *all* source code in seperate
directories. That way, I can always rebuild anything that I might
need.

Note!!! similar scenes in my patch don't produce the same results as James' project
Render times for the 3 examples were all ~ 20s (this is for just 1 particle - it slows
down
with more)
I don't have much time to answer questions as I am quite busy with uni
THIS PATCH IS FUSTRATING - DON'T GET TOO MAD
and don't take it out on me PLEASE (gets down on knees to beg)
when I get some holidays I may extend it some more - shadows, patterns instead of
Noise,
nobenddist, more
