Hello
I have found something strange:
I have a PII 400MHz with win 98. When I trace skyvase.pov, this take
1min30s. This is a correct time (see benchmark (the adress can be found
at Ken site)). When I used uvpov.exe (by Nathan Koop) the time is
1min46s (without any photon!). I say ok, certainly that the uvpov is not
PII optimized (the official POV I use is PII optimized). But when I
trace the file gdiamond1.pov (see message "diamond macro" from Simen
Kvaal in the image group) the time is (for 160*120 no AA) 11 sec with
the official pov PII optimized and 2min 25sec with uvpov (without
photons) this 13 time slower!!
Someone can make a PII otimized verion of uvpov! Thanks!
Fabian.

This seems like something more than just PII optimization. Was there some
major optimization between 3.1a and 3.1g that I missed?

See my version speed difference report in the announcement group. There
was a large improvement in speed for some functions between v3.1b and
v3.1d. Some of these were rather significant.
