Hello,
A while ago, we found a little patch by Eric Brown
(http://www.stolaf.edu/people/brownen/wwwroot_new/research/index.html)
changed sources at
(http://www.stolaf.edu/people/brownen/wwwroot_new/research/changes.zip)
You will quickly see what it does if you visit his home page, its easier
than explaning it here :-)
We tried it and it works except for the no_image option when you turn on
the auto bounding system of POV-Ray (make sure it is used by setting the
numer of objects to 1). With the auto bounding on, no_image will also
remove the shadow. If you turn the autobounding off, it works as
expected.
Also, it doesn't seem to work with the text object. Area lights are also
not working but that we can fix ourselves.
It's a nice patch, it adds lots of posibilities and we would like to
include it in one of our next updates but we are unable to fix it.
Is there someone who can fix this?
Thanks in advance,
Smellenbergh

I tried it too, and it seems to work fine.
Can you provide a pov scene which demonstrate this "bug",
now that I have applied this patch to my povray...
I tried it with sphere, torus, cylinder and cone...
the image was always as expected!!
(No more cheating with the bounding box/light source/camera
to have a vampire object, or the opposite (how do you call it ?)
)

I have to test that yet!

Well, until I tried CSG... The initial patch was incomplete
regarding the CSG structure!

Guess what : text object is just a CSG.
I have now a working version for CSG, and text.
I will also tried your script and see how it behave.

We should have figured out that one ourselves.

I looked for it in the sources but I don't seem to find the spot to make
the CSG work. Nevermind, I'll get it from you when it is all working?

I'm curious if that one renders as expected on your version.
And if it does, just blow your sources in my mail box as a zip or tar or
whatever you prefer.
Thanks again for your help and time you put in!!

Well, my spot is in parse.c ! I send a tgz in your mailbox.

I did not get your expected images. I get the shadow with
and without the bounding box.
