Yo, Chris, could you take a look-see at this?

It's a plugin for 3dstudio that allows the creation of hair.  Evidently,
the hair isn't an actual object, but some obscene code that renders in no
time flat.  Care to chack it out and see if Pov can do it?

It might use techniques that would make it scanline-only. I couldn't 
find any information on the actual algorithm used...
