Looking at the package management systems of various linux distros, one can
often find povray. Why don't they ever do megapov?-- does any distro
actually have it?

My question is more of an exploration of how these systems work, maybe about
the rep of megapov outside povray, moreso than a gripe that someone hasn't
done their job. :)

A very quick search found at least 3 Linux/*BSD distros that seem to have
megapov-1.x in their repositeries:

http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/megapov/
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/graphics/megapov/
