If you load the complete newsgroup of povray.unix there are a coupel of
threads about this subject. There have been discussions about the software

For the UNIX user, I suggest either mplayer <http://www.mplayerhq.hu> or
mpeg2codec <http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/MSSG/>
Both include a means to create an mpeg from a stream of images.
mpeg2codec can also add an audio stream; mplayer supports more formats.
