Sorry if this is an annoying question:
but since povray 3.5 is available for Linux, what are the chances
that povray for "other" unix systems follows ?

Not likely for SGI, unless someone can give us sufficient access to one to
do the build and the debugging.

Okay then I just wait for the release of the final source code to compile it on my
sgi. For security reasons I cannot give access to anyone on my sgi ( it is not mine
to be more precise ). What about compaq alpha ? What puzzles me a bit is that the
windows guys add such an incredible gui on top of povray and get it out long
before anybody else. It seems so much simpler to leave out the gui and just compile
the rest ... but this question was partially answered in one of the FAQs by stating
that windows and mac people have nothing else to do but povray. That's good for
windows and mac consumers ... who knows maybe one day I'll buy a computer that runs
windows or mac OS or linux but until then I just hope and wait ....
Before anybody complains, I appreciate people who volunteer their time to develop
povray and I know that they do more than just that. Given their tremendous work it
seems otherwise at times. Thanks. L.

If someone wants a Sparc/Solaris version, we can see what we can do.
An Alpha/OSF1 version may also be possible.
