Anybody know of a 3d modeller, freeware, opensource etc
which is scriptable similar to Povray. I just want to do some simple
geometry to make a robot figure (exported to wavefront obj) and really
struggle with pointy clicky stuff (find povray like scripts much much
easier)

Cheers
Rob

As far as I remember, the scripting language is much less flexible
than POV-Ray's, though.

On the POV-Ray side of it, I think PoseRay'll convert to from POV to OBJ for
you, although I happen to know it didn't like some mesh-1 stuff - it wanted
mesh2 I guess.

Blender (to be found at <http://www.blender3d.org/>) is scriptable and
can export to wavefront format.
Its script language is python.

Thanks folks. I started looking at BMRT, trying to find what the script
looks like and during my googling for that came across "Art of Illusion"
which has scriptable scene definition language that looks very promising.

I mean like within 30 seconds I've got a scripted scene, exported as
wavefront and loaded into the Poser. Same scene also loaded into Povray.
Neat.

Zikes there's almost as many modelling, rendering apps out there as there
are folks who raytrace ...

The best script-based modeller, per se, on the planet is a little-known
program called the Persistance of Vision Raytracer. You can script
program some blobs, you can also do it with meshes, most notably Mike
Williams' makemesh.inc.
