I have not done grass myself (and by grass I assume you mean 3-d grass -
not a texture on a plane or heightfield), however, I have seen some
grass-like renderings on IRTC (http://www.irtc.org - or from the
povray.org site under Competition). You might want to check some previous
contests and maybe you will be lucky enough to find the source, or a
webpage that will also help you out. Hope that helps some!

There are several examples posted in the povray.binaries.scene-files
group. You may have to dig back a couple of months to find them but they
are still there. Look for the words "Grass" in the message header.

Here are the locations for files demonstrating how to make real looking
grass in Pov-Ray.

Files available Povray newgroup povray.text.scene-files group
----------------------------------------------------------------

01-15-1998 by Jamis Buck Grassy Yard include file

11-21-1998 by Mike Hough Grassy scene

01-12-1999 by Gordon Grass and Flowers.inc This is a very good one

Grass Files available in the povray.binaries.scene-files group
--------------------------------------------------------------

07-03-1998 by Misha Moldavskiy Animated grass file

10-22-1998 By "me" Ken Tyler

This version uses a height field. Of all of the files listed this
will probably use the smallest amount of memory but is not quite
as good as the others.

01-02-1999 by Vahur Krouverk Source code for YAGS (yet another grass system)

01-31-1999 by Bob Hughes Cloverleaves uses clover as grass. Nicely done.

Gee, thanks. I didn't think anybody had noticed :-)

PS I am working on making it easier to use, and more versatile, and faster.
Along with the water/particles system ( and recursive objects ). Oh well, it
will all be done one day!
