Well, it seems, this bug was already fixed in povray-3.5. 
After not seeing any difference between povray-3.5 patched and 
unpatched, I noticed the "#version 3.1;" directive at the beginning 
of the file and rendered it with 3.1g. This showed that the 
black spot in the middle had a strange ill-shaped form which 
is not the case with 3.5 (3.50c)

Yes, this one gets fixed by the patch. Without the patch, I see 
heavy disortion, with the patch, the torus looks just as it should.
