If i understand correctly what causes flickers when using jitter in
animation, then fixing the problem is a simple task of making the
pseudo-random jitter offset of a super-sample a function of the
super-sample's [pre-jitter] position on the screen.
in order to make it consistent for all frames.
for example if the super-sample position is 612 and 1/5th pixels from the
left and 82 pixels from the top you could deterministically derive a random
number from that value.
(or however their positions are internally represented)
doesn't seem like it would be too hard, there are no drawbacks, and you
could use jitter with animation flicker-free.

This is the wrong group for this question. This group is for discussion of
the POV-Ray source code. POV-Ray feature suggestions should be posted in
povray.general. Platform-specific suggestions - that includes everything GUI
related or requests for GUI additions - should be posted in the group for
the appropriate platform. Questions about using the POV-Ray should be asked
in either povray.general or povray.newusers. Platform specific questions
should be asked in povray.windows, povray.unix or povray.macintosh .

This happens a lot. Have you considered changing the name of the group to
something like povray.source-code?

Do you really think that will help?
In fact, I can't think of any short name which would not cause problems.
The only name which starts being more unambiguous would be like
povray.programming-povray-c++-source-not-the-sdl
which would be rather cumbersome.

Don't you "develop" your scenes? ;-)

Might deter a bit more efficiently, but is still not unambiguous. :P

Actually i think the problem is mostly that there is very few on topic
discussion in this group most of the time. For unofficial patches there
is a separate group and talks about official development mostly happen
elsewhere as well. So this is just questions about the source and
answering them.
