<PositronicMan>Should one wish to modify, add to, and/or improve POV-Ray
(should this be within one's capabilities at some point), and one knows no
programming per se (one know some about a year ago, but has forgotten most
of it), what is the best way to proceed? What study material and software is
recommended by all of you for this task? One will be studying C and C++ in
University for one's Computer Science major at some point, so one thinks
that getting a head-start should make that easier for one in the
future.</PositronicMan>
PS: Has one used "one" to often in this post? :)

What computer system does one use, what operating system is one using,
and what is one willing to pay to get started?
If one is using Windows (which I assume from the headers) but plans on
patching POV-Ray, one should probably stay away from books with
"Windows" in their title, as one will not find Windows API's useful in
ones experiments with programming POV. The same goes for other OS's.
One should look for a "getting started" or "teach yourself" book, one
good possibility for learning C++ would be the "C++ Primer Plus", but if
one wants to mess with POV, one should find a C book(POV 4.0 will be
rewritten in C++, but is pretty far off). One will find the basic syntax
of C will still be useful in learning C++, though the way one uses the
language is different.
Argh, my head hurts!

Some one forgot to plug one's getting started in patch writting tutorial.
P.S. One is the loneliest number :)

This is like reading the opposite of Ayn Rand's "Anthem".

Ah, yes, I did...it's in the povray.binaries.tutorials group:
Chris Huff <chr### [at] yahoocom> Making POV Patches(first draft) -
attached files (1/1) 360 12/5/99 1:11 PM
However, it needs updating...most patches will probably be based on
MegaPOV now, and there are a few differences. Nothing that would be too
difficult to figure out, though.
