I'm glad I waited a while...

Black Friday + Best Buy = Orange Box for $24.99.

Portal was quite fun, but unfortunately Episode 2 crashes on my system with a "memory
cannot be read" error at a certain point in the game. :-(

Try decreasing texture/model complexity.

Yep, I've tried that already. I tried it with all video settings set to their minimum
values, to no avail. I've also been through all of the online troubleshooting
suggestions on Valve's site. It
looks like I'm going to have to contact support at this time.

The funny thing is that it happens at _exactly_ the same spot in the map every time.
Odd.

 Odd.

Then don't go to that spot? ;)

Try passing more to the left or right, as much as you can.
Even if the story IS linear, your path usualy does have some latitude, you are
usualy not FORCED to pass at that exact spot, unless it's a switch or an object
that you must collect.

Btw, I assume you have also tried upgrading your video drivers to the
latest?

Yep, tried that too.

For whatever reason, it's working fine now. I tried what Alain suggested, I went
through the area
off to the side, and decided to face the wall while I passed. I made it past the bad
spot, and now
I can't get it to fail agin. I guess it was the full moon. ;-)

Hopefully, that's the last error I'll receive. BTW, cool game so far.
