So I worked up me nerve, bit the bullet, and ventured *outside the
house* today and took the local transit system to the Orlando Public
Library. So. Walk to bus stop, 25 minutes away. Wait about half an
hour(?). Get on bus, pay $2, get transfer voucher, sit. Pull cord for
stop a bit too soon, walk to next stop to transfer to next bus
(foolishly stumbling on the way out of my seat). Wait about an hour.
Get on next bus. Get route map brochure, watch it and scenery for
entire trip. Pull cord for stop at library. Go to library.

Forget I don't live in Orange County and ask cute librarian about
renewing my card since I moved away from the area then back.

Forget reference is on 4th floor, not 3rd, so look like idiot when ask
for help and note things have moved around since I was last there a few
years ago (they've not).

Process some of first half of Dewey Decimal Classification, zoning out a
bit because I stayed up all night. Give up before entering any data
from second half. Exit library.

Spend minutes fumbling with broken celphone (scroll-ball on Blackberry
Pearl only goes one direction) to get directions to correct bus stop.
Walk about half an hour thence. Wait however long, get on bus, pay $2,
get transfer voucher. Get off bus at transfer, wait however long. Keep
eye on scenery, pull cord at correct time, get off bus.

Hungry, at strip mall with restaurants, so. Sushi place...doesn't
reopen for a few hours. IHOP...whoah, bit of a line out the door. Oh
yeah, today they're giving away free pancakes. Crap. Too late; don't
want to wait forever in line now. Italian restaurant, go. Cute
waitress, awesome chicken/rice soup with what tastes like balsamic
vinegar, sandwich, root beer. Take half of sandwich, to-go root beer
offered by cute waitress, pay bigger tip than usual, exit.

Walk home, about twenty minutes. Put food away. Go to bed, crash.

And I'll have to do it again to finish my data verification/collection.
(currently http://empyrean.freesitespace.net/misc/DDC.html )

At least next time I'll know where things are, and will have slept
properly ahead of time. Maybe bring power cord for laptop, too, even
though had fair amount of battery left.

Damn, dude, where do YOU live? In my country, librarians are bitter old
women, and restraunts are staffed by fat ugly schoolkids. I don't recall
seeing too many cute girls around.

...oh, right. So I'm guessing you live in Orlando then?

Oviedo. It's like 4 miles north of UCF, which is 14 miles from downtown
Orlando.

You need to move next to a college.

The question in today's corporate environment is not
so much "what color is your parachute?" as it is
   "what color is your nose?"

This is the Internet. I wouldn't even presume to know which *continent*
you live on, much less which country. ;-)

Funny, I actually went to college for 2 years. And went to uni for 4
years. And in all that time, the number of cute girls I saw was pretty
tiny. (Admittedly, I did computing...)

All the students (of why type) I saw at college were the kind of scary
****ers you wouldn't want to meet on a dark night, never mind socialise
with. Uni had one or two [unavailable] cute girls though...

Weren't you afraid of the Daystar, that flaming orb that burns you and
gives you cancer?

'tis a vile thing, aye, but at least in the a.m. the sky was full of
clouds. And the Others-that-Vaguely-Resemble-One'sself are out there,
too. They are not to be trusted. Wariness accompanies each moment when
they are present!
