Cool thing: There's a program called VMware ThinApp which allows you to 
put a program on a USB stick and run it without needing to "install" it. 
(Extremely useful if, like me, you have to record everything you install.)



Like... damn!

I guess that means I'll have to stick with QEMU then. :-(

Yes, I'm *sure* the company will pay for software to enable me to run 
stuff I'm not supposed to be running on the company equipment. This *is* 
after all the same company that won't pay to replace my single-core, 
32-bit desktop computer...

Well, you could frame it as needing it so you can run diagnostic 
software on the computers you manage without needing to install any 
software, thus minimizing the disruption to the employees ...

A virtual machine *does* make a kick-arse test environment, you gotta 
admit...

OTOH, since I'm not the guy who does software evaluation, I'm not likely 
to get anywhere with this. ;-)
