I don't know if it's radiated or ambient heat that causes it but it is a
distinctive feeling.

Round holes for the tape and rectangular ones for the cards. As if you didn't
know ;)

I was wondering if there's two types of paper tapes, wanted to make sure
I did think the right thing (possible language differences, you know).

It's been something like 10-15 years since I've seen such tape and 6,5
years (June 2002, I guess it was 18th) since I've seen such card. I did
remember that the holes on the tape are round, but didn't that the ones
on cards are rectangular.

And don't mention I'm getting old(er)! I know that already, I just had
my 27th birthday ~week ago.

IBM also made a 96 column card with round holes for their system/3 back in the
70's

I wrote a driver for the IBM 1017 paper tape reader on an ibm/370 system, also
in the 70's. The reader was already obsolete, so IBM didn't support it on our
system. It was kind of fun to write the code, but overall it turned out to be
a PITA.

Isaac.

I think there were a couple of different sizes of tape. Some earlier tape was 6
holes wide, the tape I worked with was a newer 7 holes wide. I still have a box
of paper cards in my garage. They make good bookmarks.

You're barely out of diapers yet, my birthday was a couple of weeks ago and
your still several years short of half my age.

Isaac.
