I know precious little about EDA. But why cannot it be a little of both -
well, typically, any new product is maybe 5% genius, 95% hard work, 50%
hype.

So the question remains as to whether it's a "good" new abstraction 
then. ;-)

I suggest that extensive practical experimentation is the only way to 
determine this...

 HAHAHA! (Off topic: That explains the Crysis phenomenon, although I would 
give Crytek a 15% genius score for CryEngine2, (Sandbox 2 editor)), and 85% 
for hard work, (which is probably acceptable for a game making company). And 
yes, 50% hype.
