I used to use Notepad to write everything. As some of you might know,
Notepad sucks.

Then I started using SciTE to write everything. It's available on
Windoze and Linux, and works quite nicely. Only real program is that
it's a nightmare to configure it properly. You have to edit a 400-line
configuration file, and most of the options are quite poorly documented.

Does anybody have a better suggestion for text editors that work on Windoze?

NB. "Emacs" is an operating system, not a text editor. :-P

Notepad is not a text editor. It's a waste of disk space.

UltraEdit (Not free)
Notepad++ (Free)

I dunno, I used it a lot before running into issues with linux-style
cr/lfs that put webpages and such onto one line.

Now I use Wordpad for most things, and Notepad2 when I want line numbers
and colour-coded syntax.

It's what I tend to use on Linux, and it seems to work moderately well.
(Certainly far better than that Notepad joke.) It even seems to [badly]
colour code Haskell source code, which is interesting.

I bet you can't run that on Windoze though...

"The only time Micro$oft will make something that doesn't suck, they'll
be making vacuum cleaners."

(BTW, I keep waiting for Apple to make a vacuum cleaner. They could call
it "iSuck"...)
