Probably should've mentioned this here earlier, as this series really is
on par with Haibane Renmei and Mushishi. Which, coming from me, is a
pretty high compliment. It's got a similar enigmatic/moody ambiance,
the character designs are a bit quirky, and it's really one of those
rare anime that you want to show to lay persons unfamiliar with anime as
example of what the medium is at its best.

Oooooo... I assume this hasn't been translated into English yet, so I'll
have to check it out on BitTorrent.
I'm currently watching Mushishi. I watched the first few episodes on
BitTorrent in Japanese, but it's nicer when you don't have to read
subtitles, and you can watch it on your TV. I'm awaiting the 3rd DVD from
NetFlix.
And, well, you know how I feel about Haibane Renmei as well. My daughter
and I are currently watching that again, which probably makes it about 7
times. I always seem to catch something that I missed before.
Most of these, my daughter watches with me ("Lain", I watched by myself),
but I don't always watch what she watches. I can't take "Bottle Fairy" and
others in that genre. "Strawberry Marshmallow/Ichigo Mashimaro" is an
exception; it's worth watching just for the off-the-wall humor, although I
sometimes feel like a pedophile for enjoying it. I guess if I didn't have a
daughter, I would really feel strange. ;-)

See, I don't really get the notion of "I enjoy, in a non-sexual way,
watching abstract representations of young girls doing amusing things,
ZOMG I FEEL LIKE A PEDOPHILE". The whole notion of paraphilias is that
one is exclusively or significantly dependent on the particular stimulus
*for sexual enjoyment*. In other words, if you're not Nobue and have
ulterior motive, you shouldn't worry.
And Bottle Fairy is freakin' awesome. XD
Anime update: new series just now starting that's all kinds of
quirky/cute/funny, Sketchbook ~full color's~...kind of Ichigo
Mashimaro/Azumanga Daioh, toned down a few orders of magnitude, focused
on characters in an art club.
