Finish information is all just a matter of how well the gem is polished;
except for ambient, which is a kludge to simulate diffuse illumination
coming from other objects - essentially the same job that radiosity does
much better (albeit slower).

yes, render with command line option +ua (and a file
format such as PNG that supports transparency). If the
ray doesn't hit an object the pixel will be transparent,
although there are some tricky details regarding things
like anti-aliased pixels. And with a transparent object,
there may be additional issues such as not correctly
showing refracted parts of the new background.
