Hi,

Does Pov-Ray have a quick-and-dirty modes for quick rendering. Something
that would amount to the functionality of OpenGL.

  Try the command-line option +qn where n is a digit between 0 and 9.
(In the windows version of povray you can write command-line options
in the textfield at the top of the window, at the right of the resolution
selection dropdown menu.)
