Its both, however it comes to older processors, Intel is king for FPU
performance (by a mile)

Yes it is - The P3 has an excellent FPU, where as this AMD 500 will be of
the K6-2 variety

on a side note - is there a way to distribute the rendering process amongst
several machines? I know that my mate did that for his university ray-tracer
project, but then again, POV is a whole different beast from your average
university ray tracer :)

Using MegaPOV can speed up things too, depending on what you are rendering.
And pictures tend to look better too IMHO.

  What changes are there in MegaPov that makes it render scenes to look
better than the official version?
