I posted the picture for this to p.b.i and the scene file to p.b.s-f.
I was first only interested in the odd looking smooth heightfield, but I seem
to remember a bug with 16bit samples or something like that. So, is it this
what I'm seeing? (The smooth HF seems to be rippled instead of smooth)

To verify how it should look, I constructed a mesh with the same surface
and the same number of sample points, and there I discovered the holes in the
mesh (The missing stripes to the left). I read a lot of posts about holes, so
I'm quite sure it isn't a bug either - but I can't seem to get rid of them.
The joining triangles have the exact same vertex positions, or at least they
should. Any explanation ?
