I have just started to use megapov from Nathan Kopp.
It works once well. After that povray stops totally the computer even
allowing Norton anti-crach program to intercept the problem.

I removed megapov and reinstalled completely Povray. It did the same
meaning that it works well once and suddenly stops the computer.
I used a register editor to remove all the old ressources of Povray and
Megapov but it did the same.

As anybody heard about this bug ?

Thanks to help me.

Charles

I've successfully installed and run WinMegaPOV and the official
POV-Ray v3.1g for Windows (as well as the Linux versions of both) and
haven't had any problems of lockup or crashes.

What happens if you disable all of the Norton utilities you are using?

Does your system lock up with every scene you attempt to render,
including the official demo scenes?

Please also read, "How to post bug reports", in
povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions and include system info in
your reply to this thread, thanks.

You mean Norton CrashGuard? I don't know about the Windows version, but
the Mac version had a reputation for causing more trouble than it
prevented. Of course, the two operating systems are so different that it
is probably impossible to judge one by the other.

You all of you advise me to reinstall povray without Norton CrashGuard.
That's what I did (I restart the computer without NCG).
I didn't change what is happening:
4 seconds after clicking on povray icon to start it the computer stops
without a blue screen, simply stops. I have to reset the computer.

Thanks to give me tips.

Charles

Not sure I would have edited the Windows registry like you did since nothing
should have changed there upon using MegaPOV anyway. It doesn't install,
just uses the POV-Ray setup already there. Could be something else
entirely, like Windows itself going bad somehow but maybe it's video
related. Did you try reducing Hardware Acceleration in System Properties
(Performance tab/Graphics button...)?
Wish I knew the answer.

I have had similar Windows problems, I can't play AVIs, Quake 2 freezes
when you exit... that reinstalling stuff and whatnot didn't fix. I think it
must be a problem with Windows itself somewhere, like a corrupt file or
something.

Ontrack Systemsweep 2000 has a very good crash prevention program. We use
Norton up at school, but for some reason, the CrashGuard seems to cause
crashes. Usually, upon starting Netscape with CrashGuard on, it crashes,
but when CG is off, it doesn't crash. Weird.

Go Ontrack!

As I have explained PovRAY is working well the first time after installation.
Then after some time it stops windows. It doesn't seem to be linked to video.
This happens just after the first time I use Megapov

If you don't ever run MegaPov, will POV-Ray crash?
