I've been using POV Ray for about 6 months, and I am exploring the
possibility of upgrading my current P166mhz w/MMX . I am looking at
replacing the CPU with an AMDK6 350 Mhz processor as well as replacing
the motherboard with a more up to date version that has AGP and room for
more RAM. My question: I believe I've noticed the phrase "Pentium
Optimized" on POV's Splash screen, will or should I experience any
technical problems with POV if I use an AMD K6 processor.

Thanks for your feedback,

Nope, I (naievely) did just what you plan to do: no problemo.

The FPU of the K6 and even K6-2 are not as good as the Intel FPU. So a
Celeron is faster than a K6-2 at the same clock speed in a rendering
programm like POV. Because the Celeron costs roughly the same as the
K6-2 it offers more computing power per money unit (replace this term by
your currency).

Current benchmarks can be found at http://www.tomshardware.com/
Tom uses 3D Studio MAX to measure FPU power but the results apply to
POV-Ray too.

So, POV-Ray works on AMD without problems but slower than on a Celeron
of the same price.
