I just started to download pov-ray3 for Windows...
I have never seen it before.
Is there something i should know before i use it ?

Well, I rather suppose you knew _something_ before you started downloading it ;)
Since there is no quessing the extent of your former knowledge, I really don't
know where to start answering.
Do you know what raytracing is? Have you previously done any programming? etc.
etc.
POV also comes with a full manual and many example scenes. Have a look at those,
they really help.
Other than that, there is nothing U actually need to know before starting to use
it - it doesn't mess up your machine if it sees your'e a beginner (most programs
don't)

Ok,

I have used alot of 3D modelling/render programs. Truespace, 3d studio (max)
Lightwave, rhino....etc.. So, i know what raytracing is/does...
I have some program experience. Turbo Pascal, Turbo C++, javascript, ASM.
What i don't understand with pov-ray is that you can't see what you're doing...
(Or is that an hidden function..) I don't mean rendering, but some kind of a
wireframe.

Well, that's how it is. There's no interactive viewport. You program the
scene and then you render it at low quality and see what it looks like.
You can get a modeller for POV where you can have interactive wireframe
previewing, like Moray and others. There are links to Moray on
www.povray.org and I think it's shareware, so you have to pay after you
evaluate...

True. Moray is a good modeller. But keep a few things in mind.
Since you are familiar with programming, I strongly suggest learning to use the
POV scripting language. This is the real beauty POV - you can have it generate
objects and other things with scripts. Moray does not allow you to do this, so
you'd miss a lot.
Also, you can export from Moray to POV, but the reverse (as far as I know)
cannot be done.
And finally latest version of Moray (3.0) does not support all the features of
POV 3.1. They are working on a new version, though.
Also, Rhino and some others can export POV format and there are converters for
making POV files from other 3D formats, like 3DS (I have 3DStudio4 myself, not
Max, so I don't know about Max converters)

  Try making this image http://iki.fi/warp/MandScripts/povray.html with
Moray. I would like to see that ;)
  Modellers are very handy, but you can't do _everything_ with them.

Actually yes you can do everything with moray you can do with scripts. you
see Moray ahs a little known feature that you can add personalized .inc
files to your scene, in that .inc file you can do anything POVRAY can do. I
admit MOST (not all) people who use Moray don't use this,or possibly even
know it is there, but with that one little feature it allows all of pov's
features to be utilized. So yes you can use all of pov's features with
Moray, most people just don't.

  But if you make an include file, you are typing povray code. Moray doesn't
help you in the making of the include file. There's absolutely no difference
if you use moray or you don't: you still have to type all the povray code.
Moray can't even show the spheres that the include file defines, so it even
doesn't help to place them in the scene. You are not using moray to make
the spheres.

I copied it int POV-Ray and i tried to render it.
It keeps Parsing...? (I'm running Pov-ray at my work on a pentium 120 Mhz / 24 MB
Notebook)
