There's no option for the text object which causes it to be rendered in
italics, but using a matrix transformation, you can shear the text causing
it to appear italicized.  For more information on shearing, check out

Shearing will give you an oblique font, not italic, many fonts define their
italic version identically to their oblique version, but italics are often
quite script (handwriting) like - curvy.

Yes, if you use the italic true type font.
For example, the Times New Italic font file is names timesi.ttf (under
Windows 3.11, but it must be the same under Windows 95. I fortunately
will not be able to check :-)

I am a Win95 user.  I just checked, and this is indeed like Win311.
