Really new.
Want to make a checker board. (chess board same thing)
Inlaid, wood squares (say dark walnut and light walnut or oak) in a
moulded wood frame.
Also red and frost white pieces.
Any links to such a thing?
How to start? Thanks. AL Lyman, Editor Am. Checker Federation Bulletin.

POV-Ray can manage tiled textures very easily. You could check the doc
in section 7.6.5.1 for a complete description of the texture maps.
Or, if necessary, ask me for a sample of a checker board.
B-o-b.

There's a complete chess set scene included with the standard povray
installation. You should be able to find it in povscn/level3/chess.pov
It was written under an older syntax, so there is an error that you will
have to fix before you can render. Every occurence of "declare" needs to be
changed to "#declare" . Then it should render fine.
