Yeah. so maybe it's better don't do it because it's the first Mac that I've
bought and I'm still learing how to use it and I've no idea about how to
compile that Unix software here. I've done some time on my desk computer,
there I've Linux Red Hat 9.0 and Pov-Ray works fine.
Well, we will wait for some system update.

I didn't have any trouble launching POV-Ray 3.6 on my MacBook Pro-- there
must be something wrong with your system.
You might try the new MacMegaPOV Universal Binary Beta 1, which has just
been announced on these newsgroups.

Compiling the POV-Ray for Unix source code works exactly the same way on
Mac OS X as on Linux. If you've done it on Linux, there's no reason not
to try it on Mac OS X.
I don't think you can do anything wrong if you only configure, compile
and install (and use) POV-Ray on the command line and use the Finder to
do things like deleting files. Again, you can (and can't) do exactly the
same things on the command line on Mac OS X as on Linux.

Can you use Pov-Ray there? I've installed Pov-Ray when the computer was new,
so, I think I can't have problems with the system.
MacMegaPov is the same as Pov-Ray?

It is the same but there are a few extra features added.
Standard POV-Ray files render just the same.
Just try it!

Yeah, I've just copied the folder into the system and all works fine.
Thanks!

Is there any new information on this problem? I encounter the same crash
with the latest version of OS X. In contrast, MegaPOV 1.2.1 runs fine, a
confusing UI, not quite as fast as expected, but it runs.

Make sure you have the *new* universal binary MegaPOV 1.2.1.
At this time this is the *fastes* povray version for any intel based Mac
and G5.
If it is not as fast as expected, the official version is going to
disappoint you even more ;-)

This problem only seems to exist for a few users of Apple PCs. As the
problem is caused by Apple's software emulator, it is beyond the control of
POV-Ray. The alternative is to get a Apple PowerMac G5 as those work without
problems.
