You should just download the POV-Tree archive and run it? It works just
fine on Mac OS X.

On the other hand, your "MAC os 9 machine" is supposed to suggest you are
running Mac OS 9? And may I guess the "java site that the author
recommended" is the link in the "README.txt" file in the POVtree archive?
If that link is indeed <http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html>, what
makes you believe there is a Mac version there? The readme surely doesn't
imply it. In fact, as you might guess if you read on in the readme document
(which says the program was only tested on Windows, yet there are no
requirements listed for Windows), it is there mostly for Windows users.

Apple does not support Java newer than 1.1.8 on Mac OS 9. So you will have
to either get Mac OS X or you cannot run this Java program.

Also, maybe you should at least *try* to get the case of the important terms
right, it isn't rocket science, and makes helping you easier as one can
actually search for "POV-Tree" rather than "POVtree"! It would also really
help if you could try to structure your question and include the relevant
information (the link you talk about), because maybe you are just asking
something completely else, I don't know...

Your question is a bit vague, and...the correct capitalizations are:
"POV-Tree", "Mac OS 9", "Java", "Mac".

Anyway, Java is far better supported on Mac OS X than it is on Mac OS 9.
Under OS X 10.2.8, POV-Tree launches with a simple double-click, but it
may just not be possible to run it in Mac OS 9. TOMTREE does not use
Java, all it requires is POV-Ray.

Thinks for the help, I will look into it all.

Sorry if I ofended any of you with my bad capping. I did not realize that
it would be that big of a deal. I will keep that in mind with any future
posts. I will also try to be more spicific with my questions. All that I
would ask is that you cut me alittle slack because I am just starting out
with this program.

Thanks,
Gary

(since a computer is a man-made device intended to assist in different jobs,
and does contain moving parts, it is often refered to as a machine. I
could also call it a OS 9 box if I so chose.)

It's not really a big deal, it's just that there were so many errors in
such a short message. ;-)

Which program? POV, or the tree utilities? POV-Tree is a separate
program, and has no official connection to the POV-Ray program. For
support of that program, you should contact its author. TOMTREE is a
third-party include file for POV-Ray, and has its own instructions for
use. If you're not sure if a problem you're having with it is due to the
include or POV-Ray itself, go ahead and ask about it here, otherwise Tom
Aust would be the best person to talk to.

Hmm...even a computer without any moving parts is a machine. One of the
meanings of "machine" is "A system or device, such as a computer, that
performs or assists in the performance of a human task" (taken from
dictionary.reference.com)
And generally, computers are enclosed in boxes, and are commonly
referred to as boxes. So I guess I agree with you, though I'm not sure
why you brought it up.

I just started using POV-Ray (is that right?) or more specificly MegaPOV
(?). I downloaded TOMTREE and Tree-POV just to see what they were like. I
don't think that I am at the point where I will get much use out of them
yet however.

I made those comments because of what the first person who posted a responce
wrote. I was rather ofended by what he said and the way in which he put it
forth. I just started with these programs so I don't know how to refer to
them properly yet, though I am trying to learn. I do know how to refer to
computers, and I felt if he was going to corect me, then turn about is fair
play. The world of computer users is much larger than just graphics, and
there is alot of termonlogy that goes along with that world.

I don't like to be talked down to.

Unfortunately you'd better get used to it, if you're going to use POV-Ray;
Thorsten is one of its core developers.
