MacMegaPOV is now also available as a carbonized version.
This version runs on any PPC Mac with MacOS X Public Beta.

It also runs on any PPC Mac with MacOS version 8.1 or later if:
* Navigation Services are installed;
* Appearance Manger 1.1 or later is installed:
* CarbonLib 1.0.4 or later is installed.
All three extentions can be downloaded for free from www.apple.com.

If your OS meets the criteria, we recommend you download the carbonized
version because in the future, this will be the only version remaining.

For now you can also download a version that will run on systems prior
to 8.1. A minimum is 7.5.1 but 7.5.3 is recommended.
There is more help available on our home page to make sure you donwload
the right version.

Please also note that 0.7 is the last version for 68k machines, even our
last 68k beta testers have moved on to a PowerPC. There aren't enough
downloads to justify those versions :-(

Some additional info is in the readme file, included in all archives.
Please read it!!!

As always, we love to hear your comments. We also would like to get some
feedback on the carbonized version, certainly if you run on MacOS X!

Thanks!

Enjoy!

Don't know if this is kosher or not, but here are some direct links to the
downloads mentioned:

CarbonLib 1.2 http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11916
CarbonLib 1.0.4 http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11673

I couldn't find anything on Navigation Services or Appearance Manager on
Apple's site (I'm also known for going to yahoo, typing "porn" and getting
zero hits, so I'm impressed I found those) but all I had to do was install
CarbonLib 1.2 on my G3, which has 9.0.4 and the Carbonized version of
MacMegaPov 0.7 seems to be happy.

Thank you! Indeed, most people will have v 1.01 with their 9.0.4. but
you need 1.0.4 to run the carbon vesion.

For some reason I can't find the Appearance Manager and Navigation
Services right away. They are there, no doubt about it.
I'll try again later to find them and I'll post the links (if nobody
beats me to it... please do :-)

In the About CarbonLib Update documentation says that if you are running
OS 8.1 the installer also instals the Navigation Services 1.0.1.

As I'm using OS 8.1 y downloaded the carbonlib 1.0.4, installed
MacMegaPov 0.7 and it's all working fine. I have an iMac.

Thank you Smellenbergh and all the people behind this MegaPov upgrade.

Alberto.

Appearance is only part of the Appearance SDK (or for inclusion in
application installers for a license fee), not available as separate update
for users to install. The reason is simple: You need a localised version
which Apple does not provide. Installing a English Appearance localised on
8.0 or earlier would be possible and probably allow most applications could
run, but Apple decided to require 8.1 for Carbon apps because the first
release of Appearance in Mac OS 8.0 was very buggy. As the update from 8.0
to 8.1 is free this should not be a problem because 8.1 includes the
appropriate Appearance library and there are no updates available to it (but
8.5 to 9.1 include updated versions in the System file).
