TL;DR
Wen?
TL;DR:
Why is this not in Discord, a lot more fluid and organized, 'coz the Web
Newsgroup template kinda of sucks: I used Ex-Mozilla Thunderbird and it gives a
nice structure but still I need to read a lot of irrelevant posts to get to
something important, so the solution for irrelevant posts is Discord, and leave
the important stuff for the Newsgroup

"the weight of history" ;-) Wikipedia tells me Discord was started in 2015,
this website + news groups have been going about three times as long.

Given that Discord is a wholly proprietary, gated service that isn't
searchable/accessible outside of specific corporate-mandated clients, I think
the newsgroup is a welcome relief from the knowledge black holes that so many
projects pour all their community resources into.
The web already has a very effective technology for conveying information that's
been working for decades: HTML. Which on that note I'll bet the record of this
thread will easily outlast anything happening in those flashy fiefdoms people
seem so quick to embrace. ;)

RSS ?
The last message dates from December 2021.
May be another link than <http://www.povray.org/rss.xml> ?
For my part, I've always used and still use NNTP.

I never came around setting up my old newsreader, Xnews, again. The one in
thunderbird I don't like.

Discord is a real time discussion platform. It's good for a conference
or a team meeting. I use it for some role playing cessions where most
players can't meet in person.
For non-synchronous interaction, it don't hold a candle to a good old
news group.
Then, what is important for you may be irrelevant to someone else, and
what is irrelevant for you may be very important for someone else.
If you are in a thread that you don't care about, you can use the «T» to
mark it all read and skip to the next unread message.

I use <http://news.povray.org/digest/messages/rss/>, guessing they're the same.
